Part Two: The Mayfair Witches, Chapters 22-23 Summary

Aaron's narrative of the twentieth century Mayfair witches continues in Chapter 22. Lionel raves about the family while restrained in a mental institution, and ends up suffocating in his straitjacket and padded cell. The Talamasca decides to stay away from the Mayfairs until a suitably qualified person can dedicate himself to the case. Aaron introduces his own history, as the member of the Talamasca who takes over the file on the Mayfair witches. The narrative continues with the life of Antha, who runs away as a teenager. She remains hidden in Greenwich Village long enough to sell some of her writing and fall in love with Sean Lacy. When Antha gets pregnant, Sean dies in a car accident. Antha returns to First Street.
