Luann Tyler (aka Catherine Savage)

Luann Tyler is a young, unwed mother at the beginning of the novel. She is the daughter of Benny and Joy Tyler, both deceased. LuAnn was born and raised in Rikersville County, Georgia. She dropped out of school in the seventh grade to go to work and earn a paycheck. Her choice was common among the youth of the area. Most families lived below the poverty line. Job loss, unemployment and low pay rates for available employment were expected. Townspeople believed LuAnn's prospects were better. She is five feet ten inches tall, a brunette beauty who carried herself with confidence. They thought her to be of a different caliber and expected her to leave the little town for far away, exotic places.
