Part Two: Chapters 27- 30 Summary
In an effort to protect LuAnn's identity, Charlie engaged in Charlottesville society on her behalf. They donated large sums of money to worthy local causes but generally kept to themselves. People accepted that they were quiet, wealthy people and provided them ample space. LuAnn appreciated the privacy. She had tried to maintain that barrier by sending Matt Riggs away without an explanation or even a thank you following the car chase. Since that time she had had a chance to rethink her position and felt badly for treating him that way. LuAnn drove to his home to make amends. Unfortunately, he didn't appear to be home. Her curiosity got the better of her. LuAnn let herself into his home and began looking through his things. When Matt discovered her inside his home he was understandably upset. They verbally sparred for a short time but settled into a truce.
