Summary

In Chapter 39, Vanessa faces Richard in the hallway outside Emma’s apartment as he steps off the elevator. Emma is in the apartment with Maureen. Vanessa stokes Richard’s anger by pulling out the Visa bill showing he never reordered the wine. She says she is also going to tell Emma how he is tracking her using her phone. When Vanessa claims she will tell Emma everything and that Emma will leave him, Richard explodes. Emma had expected to be closer to Emma’s door so that Emma and Maureen could witness the explosion. Richard’s hands close around her neck.

Vanessa kicks at him and claws at Richard until she grabs something hard in his pocket. She pulls it free and smashes it into his face. He lets go of her neck just as she hears a woman calling her...
