Summary

In this section, the narrator recalled how she often appreciated the moon and could see a face in the mid-month moon. Ever since childhood, she had often heard other descriptions of the moon from adults--that it is like a pair of rabbits or the mortar used for pounding rice--but she could never see these things. All she saw was a face with two dark eyes.

The narrator considered that there must be some inner purity within us as human beings that causes us to appreciate white things. Upon waking up in the morning, she appreciated white things and imagined that the white bed sheets were speaking to her. She imagined that they affirmed her and called her noble and clean.
