Summary

One spectator did notice the ringing of the bell and whispered that it seemed to be a strange omen. Another spectator whispered back that it was as if the bell had rung of its own accord and had specifically rung a funeral knell for Mrs. Dabney. Mrs. Dabney and her bridal party were too occupied with the matter at hand to notice the tolling of the bell. The bridal party members were all dressed in very fine clothing. Mrs. Dabney was wearing a resplendent wedding dress, but she herself was quite old and wrinkled. As Dabney and the bridal party neared the altar, the bell sent out another ominous toll.
