Summary

Chapter 64 begins with Dalinar's first person narration as he and Navani stroll through the king's garden accompanied by his honor guard and her clerks. They discuss how Dalinar wanted to court her years ago but stopped when Gavilar showed interest. Navani mentions Dalinar's wife but because of his curse he cannot hear her name or remember it. Dalinar tells Navani that they cannot let their relationship be public yet but he does want to find some way he can reconcile it with his own principles and honor. Suddenly, the horn sounding a pupating chasmfiend sounds and Dalinar realizes that the beast is pupating at the Tower. Dalinar rushes off to prepare for his joint assault with Sadeas. The narration switches to Kaladin's first person as the lumberyard erupts in a frenzy, with men running everywhere and Matal bellowing orders. However, this chaos stands...
