Summary

Chapter 6 is in Kaladin's first person narration as he and the other slaves arrive in one of the war camps on the Shattered Plains. Kaladin notices that the camp they are in is disorderly and not very disciplined. A brighteyed lady purchases the slaves from Tvlakv to be bridgemen, who tells her that Kaladin is a deserter, which ruins any chance he had at potentially joining the armies on the Shattered Plains. Kaladin does not know what bridgemen are and when he encounters the leader of the bridgemen, Gaz, he tries to convince him that he has had military training. This irritates Gaz, who makes him join Bridge Four without any equipment when they hear the signal to begin carrying the bridges.
