Section 7 Summary

In this section, the characters are entering middle age and each one finds growing older difficult. Bernard, who always looked to construct the perfect sentence, now realizes his time is up and in an effort to rediscover himself goes to Rome for 10 days. Here he reflects on his intellectual ability and how he did not have the potential he once thought.
