Summary

The chapters in this section continue to be separated by passages from the Welcome Book. One woman recalls being harassed by a man she walked past every day, and states that she fantasized about killing him. Another woman recalls looking at her husband and wondering if he would protect her from other men, ultimately deciding he would not.

Grace delivers her baby, a boy, but it is stillborn. Afterwards, Mother makes Sky and Lia get into the bathtub and clean themselves vigorously. Mother then instructs Lia to take the baby out in a boat and drop it into the sea. She does so, looking at her house from the water and feeling reluctant to return. Back at home, Mother further instructs Lia, Sky, and Grace to lie down on the ground, after which she covers them with a sheet and gives them permission...
