Chapters 22-24 Summary

In Chapter 22, Lace searches for and finds Samson's gun under the stoop where he lives. Lace takes the gun to Mama and suggests they go to the police, but Mama tells him the police will only arrest him. On the other side of town, Glitsky and Hardy go to a dumpster where Johnny LaGuardia's body has been found with two bullets in his head. When Angelo Tortoni arrives, Glitsky tells him that he believes LaGuardia was hired by Medina to kill Ingraham and Medina killed LaGuardia to cover up his crime. However, Tortoni had LaGuardia killed to punish him for his treatment of Doreen, something the reader learns from Tortoni's thoughts. After leaving the crime scene, Hardy meets with Courtenay and asks her about Maxine and Ingraham. Hardy learns that Ingraham had talked about going to Acapulco where he could gamble...
