Summary

In Chapter 25, Emily has gotten into a good routine of life at the cottage, spending time with Lady Charlton and learning of her youthful adventures traveling. One day, a strange man with an injured thumb comes to Emily’s door asking for the wise woman. She says she is no wise woman but helps bandage his thumb and sends him on his way. In Chapter 26, Emily looks for answers in the old journal she had found before. She discovers that Susan Olgilvy wrote in 1858 of her own experience moving into this cottage after running away from her comfortable home when she married a man her parents did not approve of, who later died. Susan writes of discovering an old journal featuring a collection of herbal remedies, written in 1684 by Tabitha Ann Wise, and realized that the cottage was in fact on a healing garden...
