Summary

In Chapter 9, the land girls go through training and Emily discovers what difficult work farming is. They are sent to a potato farm and Emily is assigned as a team lead. Covered in blisters and sunburns, she thrives in her work and she enjoys visiting Robbie at the hospital nearby. Her parents attempt to convince her to come back with them and work for a solicitor in town, but she refuses. They declare she is no longer welcome at their house because of her rebellion. In Chapter 10, Emily receives news that Robbie will be discharged from the hospital and will return to his squadron, so she requests special permission to leave work early and spend the weekend in Plymouth with him.

In Chapter 11, on Saturday, they eat fish and chips by the harbor and go to the cinema, where they hold hands and kiss...
