Summary

The spectators continued watching as Arms and Hands tried to complete Legs' challenge. While the upper limbs had been so confident, "displayed such an incredible array of skills" just moments prior, now they could barely move (41). They yelped in discomfort, falling to the dirt in agony. Every time they attempted the challenge, Fingers splayed in order to "better hold the ground" (41). While Thumbs could stretch, Hands remained unsuccessful. Once they tried cartwheels, but the judges said the technique was not allowed. Toes laughed at Hands and Arms. Arms became as upset as Legs and Toes had been. Finally the upper limbs quit trying. Legs grew arrogant, trotting, running, jumping in the air and showing off (43). The spectators applauded their display of agility.
