Summary

As the body parts prepared for the contest, Wind announced news of the upcoming game across the land. Every four-legged animal in the "forest, water and air" traveled to the clearing to witness what was about to take place (21). They brought green branches so the others would know they meant no harm. The creatures who lived in the water, rested their bodies on the banks to watch. The two-legged animals, mainly birds, sang from the trees and "flapped their wings in excitement" (25). Then the insects and amphibians joined the realm of the spectators. Some of them moved about quietly, while others of them ran in circles, unable to contain their anticipation. The monkeys, chimps, and gorillas joined as well, swinging from the nearby branches. The vegetation grew excited too, swaying and bending as they waited for the contest to begin.
