Structure

The book is divided into seven sections, and each section includes various amounts of chapters that have diverse lengths. All of the sections, except for the first, are titled with the name of the time period that each section describes. The titles start with "Summer and Fall 2013" and continue with a new title for each year, until the final section: "2018." The first section begins with a prologue by Julie. The final section ends with an epilogue by Joshua.

Sometimes, Julie structures her chapters as letters to specific individuals. However, most times, her chapters are her recollections. The recollections are not described sequentially. Sometimes, she repeatedly describes parts of events, but delves more into them in a later chapter.
