Summary

In Chapter One, Kiana Roubini rides to Greenwich Middle School with her stepmother and baby step-brother, Chauncey. Kiana’s mother is an aspiring actress who finally booked a gig in an independent movie. Since it is shooting in Utah, Kiana had no choice but to move in with her dad and stepmother. When Chauncey throws up as they pull up to school, her stepmother tells Kiana to get out, but Kiana reminds her she needs an adult to register since it is the first day of school. Her stepmother tells Kiana she will go change Chauncey, then be back in fifteen minutes. Kiana waits on a bench for twenty minutes.
