Chapters 53-56 Summary

Chapter 53 returns to the Dogherty farm where Colville shoots first at Neumann, missing him, then kills Sean Dogherty. Neumann and Anna both fire on Colville and kill him. Mary rushes in and Anna almost shoots her, but Neumann stops her from doing so. Jenny, unknown to everyone in the barn, is seeing everything. Jenny debates whether to go to the village and call for the police or hide first. She realizes that Neumann will find her dad's bike and then her own as they are lying side by side. She decides to hide. Neumann begins searching for her and Anna takes Mary into the house to tie her up.
