Chapters 14 through 17 Summary

In chapter fourteen, Mrs. Pollifax continues to read Lulash's book and notes all the Albanian words she finds. Farrell continues to improve and it seems clear that he will live. Mrs. Pollifax says that she has not saved him just to allow Perdido to kill him and renews her vow to escape. One day Colonel Adhem Nexdht takes Mrs. Pollifax for her daily walk. As they make their way around the compound, he takes her farther afield than she has been allowed when Lulash is watching. When she sees what is obviously a construction site, she asks what they are building and he seems almost disinterested, but says that it is a missile site. Mrs. Pollifax is immediately intrigued with the information. She believes if she can return to the United States and Mr. Carstairs with information about a Chinese missile...
