Chapters 57 - 59 Summary

In Chapter 57, Mara doesn't go to school the following day. Noah surprises her by beating on the door and telling her that he needs to show her something. He tells her that they have to make it to the courthouse before Mara's father's trial is finished. He shows her a copy of The Miami Herald with a picture of the crime scene showing the shed where Noah and Mara had found Joseph. Noah doesn't understand why Lassiter would kidnap his own lawyer's child. Mara explains that the day her father had called Lassiter to tell him that he was off the case. Noah hopes to get to the courthouse and have the trial delayed. When they get there, however, the jury is already out. Mara realizes that she cannot let Lassiter go free.
