Point of View

This story is told from the point of view of a third-person omniscient narrator. The reader can tell that the narrator is omniscient because he is able to tell the stories of both Loo and Hawley, the central characters. The narrator reports the thoughts, feelings, and emotions of both characters as they both mature. The chapters about the bullets generally focus on Hawley. For instance, when Lily leaves Loo with Hawley, the narrator follows Hawley as he discovers that letting Loo suck on his finger after he has dipped it in whiskey will help her to stop crying. The reader learns where Lily went only when she comes home and tells Hawley where she went. The other chapters of the novel focus on mostly on Loo.
