Somerset

Somerset is a small coastal town in New Hampshire. Somerset is the main setting for the novel, and it is where events in 1975 and 2008 play out. The town is small enough where residents are well-known to one another, but the community is large enough to attract businesses and restaurants. Somerset is characterized by beaches and large swaths of woodland, especially along Side Creek Lane. Somerset is also home to Goose Cove. Marcus visits Somerset prior to murder accusations against Harry. While the small town feel of Somerset attracts outsiders like Harry, Marcus, and Elijah, it is not so attractive to others like Tamara. Nola’s disappearance and Deborah’s murder in 1975 shake the town. A disappearance and a murder were not ordinary happenings for the small town.
