Summary

The narrator starts her story by saying she came to the Maldives soon after she was diagnosed with a brain tumor. She then explains how her situation came about. She had been living in Havana in a crowded apartment when her father, who had been living in the United States for a decade, called her to say he got her a visa. One night, she went out with some friends and a Canadian tourist. As the music played she realized that she was having trouble hearing, and the issue persisted for days.
