Prologue: Chapter 1 and Part 1, Beginnings: Chapters 2-16 Summary

Chapter 1. A man sits in a cave alone, his beard very long. Voices from earth haunt his every moment. Sarah Lemon, a teenager on earth, is one of those voices. She is anxious about time as she prepares to meet a young man later that evening. Victor Delamonte is also one of those voices. Victor is a wealthy business man who is dying of cancer and kidney failure. The man listening is Father Time who is waiting until the moment when he is allowed to return to earth and finish what he started.

Chapter 2. Dor is a small boy running up a mountain with his friends, Alli and Nim. This is a time before man kept time, but Dor is beginning to count the moments.
