Barney Mayerson

Barney Mayerson lives in New York City and works for P.P. Layouts. He has precognitive abilities, meaning that, to some extent, he can predict the future with varying levels of accuracy. In his work, he uses his powers to determine what objects will become fashionable and popular. Barney is divorced from his wife, Emily, although he is bitter about the divorce and seems to miss her dearly. Before the beginning of the narrative, Barney receives a draft notice, meaning he will be forced to relocate to an off-world colony to help populate it. Barney plans to avoid the draft by purposely failing the required mental examination. Meanwhile, Barney becomes wary that his new assistant, Roni Fugate, is attempting to steal his job from him.
