Red Coast Base

Red Coast Base, known colloquially as Radar Point, is a Chinese military scientist installation located on a mountaintop in the Greater Kinghan Mountains. Red Coast Base has as its primary, but classified mission, the search for extra-terrestrial life. Ye Wenjie spends decades isolated at Red Coast with her husband in pursuit of such alien contact. Ye Wenjie succeeds, but in order to keep the truth to herself, she kills her husband and the base commander. The mission is officially declared a failure, and the base itself is later shut down. At the end of the novel, Ye Wenjie returns to Red Coast to contemplate the sunset of humanity. It is believed she dies there, though whether by her own hand or by force is not clear.
