Summary

In “Things are Closer Than They Appear” even though her mother had woken her up, Suzy had gone back to sleep. They were running late. Even as she tried to hurry Suzy struggled to remember the dream she’d been having. She’d been having to swim to get to Jamie through water filled with Irukandji jellyfish. Just as she had gotten close enough to Jamie to reach for his hand, she saw a jellyfish in the water next to her. She didn’t know if she’d get out of the water or get stung first. It wasn’t until she was waiting for the bus she realized that whatever had happened in the dream, whether it was reaching Jamie or getting stung, it was better than doing nothing. At that point...
