Emily Windsnap

Emily is just beginning high school at Brightport. She has just longer than shoulder length brown hair that she usually wears loose. Emily has a secret that she fears sharing with anyone but her readers. Emily is a mermaid, or at least part mermaid. Her mother is human but her father was a merman who fell in love with her, and was eventually arrested for doing so. Emily is a product of their love, but her memories of him vanish when he does, and she lives the first twelve years of her life unaware of the special gift she has. When she discovers her tail during her first swimming lesson, she is terrified that someone will discover her secret and ostracize her.

The first time her tail appears in the pool, Emily is terrified. Afraid to stay in, and equally afraid to get out of the water...
