Summary

At the start of Chapter 11, Constance finds the gift from Alistair hidden behind the sofa in their trailer, just as Stella walks in. Inside the box there is a wolf pelt, with the head perfectly intact, which Constance slips over her head, making her look like a white wolf. Stella mysteriously asks whether she can invite a new friend over for dinner, as they realize they are late for the “winter-prep meeting” (94). At the prep-meeting, we are able to fully realize the effects of the decreasing temperatures. Most of the town meets at the village hall to discuss how to maximize their chances of surviving the winter. This is the first time the characters have to face the possibility that they may not live through the next few months.
