Importance: Lo Ruiz, the first person sent out to see Flight 753 after landing and losing contact, feels scared and unnerved by the aircraft. This revelation by the narrator demonstrates just how quickly something went wrong between landing and losing contact with the plane.

She had never been out in the middle part of the country, where you can see tornadoes coming at you from miles away. But this felt like that. Like there was something coming her way that she could do nothing about.
