Point of View

The Storyteller’s Secret is primarily told from two points of view, Jaya and Amisha’s, with brief passages from Ravi’s point of view. The first perspective is Jaya’s, which is related in modern times. Since Jaya is experiencing severe depression owing to her third miscarriage and the separation from her husband, her passages are necessarily tinged with despair. The memories she relates are ones of sadness and regret. Specifically, she recalls moments where her mother emotionally neglected her. She also undergoes strange blackout episodes. Every time Jaya experiences a blackout (often because something or someone has triggered the thought of her recent breakup or her miscarriages), there is a brief lapse in time.
