Both Shahrayar and Sharazad feel contentment they were not expecting, though neither is willing to admit their feelings out loud. The subjects of the king begin to assume Shahrazad will live. 'Ajib's brothers start a rumor that Shahrayar spares Shahrazad's life not by his own free will but because she has bewitched him with her stories.
