Summary

In Chapter 1, Owen is bored in his math class and can think of nothing more boring than fractions. The teacher, Mr. Barberry, calls on Bethany, who is holding a copy of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory inside her math book. Owen notices that Bethany seems to have chocolate on her chin. As usual, Owen sits by himself in the cafeteria. He sees Bethany enter. Apparently, she is eating something behind the cover of the book. Bethany catches Owen looking and leaves the cafeteria. Owen decides he should apologize for being rude and follows. He finds the hallway empty, except for Bethany's copy of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Owen picks it up and discovers it is covered with chocolate.

After school, Owen goes to the library where his mother works. He finds Bethany's book in his book bag. He realizes he has not...
