Summary

Page 149 – 153—Dinesh hears a sound coming from the jungle as his crying slowly comes to a stop. The sound surprises him because it reminds him that a world continued to exist while he had been lost in his feelings. He becomes aware of the fact that he has been crying about his erectile dysfunction, and that he did not shed a tear when his mother died. He recalls overcoming his initial embarrassment and embracing his feelings, imagining his penis as an amputated limb in order to lose himself in the act of crying. This act of urging his own tears reminds Dinesh of an incident in his childhood, in which his mother beat him and he hid himself under his grandmother’s bed to cry. He remembers thinking of the unfairness of the beating, his tears sustained by recalling as many instances he could...
