Summary

Pages 1 - 6—Dinesh carries a six-year-boy injured by shrapnel to the clinic. The boy’s right arm has been all but dissolved by the shrapnel. Dinesh appears to be unfazed by this gory imagery, if not a little curious about the boy’s previous amputation. Soon after Dinesh lays the boy down on the ground of the operating area, the doctor arrives, followed by a nurse. Dinesh and the nurse hold the boy in place while the doctor performs the amputation with a kitchen knife. After the operation, Dinesh stares at the severed arm of the boy lying on the floor and wonders how to best dispose of it, even though various other body parts are scattered around the room undisposed. Before Dinesh can come to a decision, the boy’s older sister comes into the room and carefully wraps her brother’s severed...
