How Florence Differs from Other Areas

Florence distinguished itself from the other areas of Italy. While many other areas used marble stripes, Florence and Florentine artists used geometric designs in their buildings. Florentines also did not use the pillars and columns that the Greeks and others used. This is shown by the architecture and style of the Duomo, with its membratura and its resemblance to human anatomy, and the other buildings in the city. The colors of Florence also differ from the colors used in other areas of Italy. Florence is mostly in colors of beige and creams and whites and blacks. These are the colors of stone and metal.
