Summary

In Book 5, called “The Owl King,” the Keeper holds Zachary back from jumping in the rift in the floor. Zachary reads the Keeper’s notebook, which is filled with love letters to Mirabel. The Keeper says that Mirabel would have been stuck in the wreckage. He explains that he has known Mirabel over many reincarnations. Zachary sees a portrait of him and Dorian, which the Keeper says that Allegra had painted 20 years ago. Mirabel appears in the doorway. Meanwhile, Dorian falls into the Starless Sea, which is filled with honey. Mirabel and Zachary decide to rescue Dorian again. Zachary identifies the Keeper and Mirabel as the pirate and girl from the story in Sweet Sorrows. Mirabel tells Zachary how Allegra had raised her after her mother disappeared.
