Summary

Chapter 22 begins on the afternoon of the Kiddie Kadoo festival. That morning Errol had driven Mrs. Loving and all the children into town and then went to find a seat at the stadium with Dionne. Phaedra’s group, all dressed up in their costumes, is called to take the stage for the dance competition. Phaedra has memorized the words to all the songs and dances as hard as she can, but her group does not win any of the prizes. Phaedra is extremely disheartened by this and begins to cry. Mrs. Loving tries to comfort her, but when she finds out that Mrs. Loving has not seen Errol or Dionne since they dropped them off that morning she becomes even more upset.
