Part Three, Him, Chapter 12, To Sleep—Perchance to Die Summary

Horror and Sluggsy decide it is time to go to bed. Sluggsy gets gas lanterns for both Bond and Viv and escort them to Viv's cabin. Bond follows her inside and shows her how to barricade her door in order to keep Sluggsy out of her room during the night. Bond then assures her he will keep a lookout and tells her to get some sleep. After Bond leaves, Viv prepares for bed and makes herself a bedroll on the floor. Viv falls asleep quickly, but wakes in the night when she sees a light coming from the clothes cupboard. At first Viv thinks it is the automatic lights, but remembers that Sluggsy turned off the electricity. Suddenly a figure jumps out of the cupboard and.....
