Viv goes to Zurich, takes the maturity she has learned in her failed relationships and uses it to strengthen her character. Viv decides the sophistication of London is the source of her troubles. Viv decides to leave London, visit her aunt, and then drive through America to Florida where she hopes to find a job with a newspaper. Viv buys a Vespa, a motor scooter, and has it shipped to Quebec.

Viv's aunt is not happy with her decision, afraid Viv will make a spectacle of herself driving on the Vespa and will be in danger traveling alone. Viv dismisses her aunt's concerns. Viv heads out in mid-September, intent on seeing everything there is to see between Quebec and Florida. Viv spends nearly two weeks going a mere.....
