John Candotti returns to visit Father Sandoz. Even if Sandoz refuses to reveal the events of the Rahkat mission, there were records of the story that others wouldn't hesitate to share. The topic of interstellar travel was a controversial one; even one of the backers of the mission, The Contact Consortium, had fed the drama in exchange for attention and money. It isn't until Sandoz is found that all of the backers scramble to avoid the scandal. The media has grabbed the story, investigating the mission members like D.W. Yarbrough, Marc Robichaux, Sofia Mendes, and Emilio Sandoz. No one recalls how beloved and respected Sandoz once was. At his meeting with Candotti, Sandoz again insists he won't speak of the matter but will instead withdraw from the Jesuit society.
