Summary

Four years after her wedding, Sera woke up feeling hatred “lodged like a bone in her throat” (175). She woke Dinaz and told Banu they were going out for the day. Banu tried to stop her, but Sera left quickly. Once out of the house, Sera was uncertain where to go. She considered visiting Feroz, but the thought made her feel heavy. She decided to visit her parents.

That night, Sera’s parents had said they had dinner plans, but could cancel. Sera had been about to tell them they should go because she and Dinaz would be leaving soon. However, she realized she did not want to leave. Sera asked her parents if she could stay without telling them about her problems with Feroz and Banu.
