Summary

Chapter 37 is titled “Reconciliation.” the chapter opens with a dream in which Aurial is holding Jacob hostage. She forces him to eat pie, and he discovers that his mouth is full of maggots. He finds he cannot eat breakfast because of the dream. By now, Katrina has moved out to attend college and seldom calls home. Carolyn, apparently feeling lonely, is being kinder to Jacob. When Jacob arrives at school, Malini is waiting for him. She shows him the bracelet he left weeks earlier, and says she does not go onto her balcony every day. Jacob is relieved she is talking to him, but knows their relationship is “more fragile” (221) because of their fight. Malini says Jacob can have no more secrets, and he agrees.
