Margot Harrington

Margot Harrington is the main character in the book. Most of the story is written in the first person from her perspective. She grew up in Chicago, but spent a small part of her youth living in Italy with her mother. It is a time she remembers fondly. She is very intelligent, and managed to get accepted into Harvard, but she was never able to attend because her mother became very ill with cancer. She became a book restorer with a true passion for the craft. Margot is constantly looking for signs to see where she belongs in life.
