Chapter 3 Pages 277-298 Summary

Once it's dark enough to use the gold-finding solution, the four men head down to the river. When they see how hard of a time Morris is having with his legs, they all offer him a portion of their share so that he doesn't have to work. The other three start to work.

Charlie ends up pouring the solution on his right hand. It starts to burn his flesh right away. this causes Charlie to drop the barrel of solution. The current starts to take the barrel away. Charlie and Eli both realize that Charlie's injury is to the hand that he shoots his gun. Eli bandages Charlie's hand and then they continue to work.
