Summary

Part 2: While the Earth Remains, continued

In Chapter 9, the body of Mary Younger is found by two boys playing with a BB gun. The entire Younger family is buried together, and Bo has workers from the Mill come down to bear the coffins. Father Rovnavaha explains that God’s covenant remains for those who remain on the Earth while the Earth remains –that the sun, harvests, and seasons will continue. With Jeff’s help, Bo is able to get his old Dodge pickup running again, which has been out of commission since the flood. The summer comes on in full swing. Hannah works in the gardens. The mill continues to manage, allowing Bo to give small raises. In August, Bo goes up to see the house he has inherited. He decides to clear away the weeds and overgrowth, and turn the house into something...
