Quoyle is a large, red-haired, thirty-six-year-old man with a protruding chin that he's been self-conscious of his entire life. He's quite clumsy and has a rather low opinion of himself. He had a horrible upbringing and was treated badly by his father and brother. As an adult he was adrift in his life with no real motivation to do anything different.
