Tookie

Tookie is the first person narrator and main character of the novel. Tookie grew up with her mother in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She never knew her father. Because her mother was a negligent addict, Tookie lived most of her childhood in profound isolation. Years later, when Tookie was in her thirties, she became an addict herself. She lived a life defined by unrest and crime. She was involved with untrustworthy people who did not encourage her to be the person she was capable of being. The only person who truly saw her was her friend Pollux, a man who also worked as a cop.
