Summary

“The Typists” continued in Washington, D.C. in Fall 1956. The typists met at Ralph’s, a local diner, before work. They vented about the frustrations of the job and lamented the opportunities they thought they would have after graduating college. The typists met Irina with hesitation, especially because she replaced a friend of theirs. They wondered why Irina was meeting with high-ranking men at the Agency. The women appreciated that Irina did well and worked hard, declining their invitations to meals on personal time. After the Thanksgiving break, Irina opened up to the women and they bonded with humor. On their way out to dinner, the women ran into Teddy Helms and Henry Rennet.

“The Swallow” also took place in Fall 1956. Sally reunited with her colleagues from World War II, many of whom worked at the Agency...
