Searching for Self

The major theme of the book is the search for the self or the search for inner peace and happiness. This is especially true of the author, who is a veteran of the Viet Nam War. Like many others, he suffered many emotional scars from the war. He felt that he never really came home from the war and spent twenty years trying to find himself.
